Rick Daniels is an educator, scholar, and an advocate for higher education. As Dean of Students at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill., he focuses on a broad range of student-centered services that include conflict resolution, academic misconduct, sexual assault prevention and education, and strategic initiatives aimed specifically at enhancing the campus cultural climate.

Rick received his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2008 and his Master’s in Higher Education in 2011 from the same institution. As an undergraduate, Daniels studied abroad at universities in Peru and Ghana, and was selected as the first and only student representative to attend the Oxford Conclave on Global Ethics in Oxford, England. He plans to begin his Doctoral work in Organizational Management in 2018.

Rick is considered to be a thought leader on a variety of contemporary topics including but not limited to; race, social justice, unconscious bias, hip-hop culture, and various subjects across the higher education spectrum. His audiences include college and university campuses, professional & academic conference participants, community groups, and international corporations across the country.

He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is the author of Tap Dancing Without Shoes: The History of Stepping and the Impact on Greek Life and Popular Culture.

Rick is happily married and a father to four wonderful children: Christian, Madison, Morgan, and Chloe Daniels.

He lives by the simple yet powerful mantra, “Today Is A New Day and Another Opportunity.”
